All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Riverton, WY) – In the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office call log issued yesterday, it was reported that a “stab/gunshot” call had been made at 12:58 PM on June 29, where the reporting party relayed that a subject had been “shot in the leg after an altercation.”
The log goes on to state that the “suspect fled from the scene” and remained at large at the time.
FCSO Undersherriff Mike Hutchison shared today, July 1, that the suspect was detained yesterday and identified as 19-year-old Evan Smith.
“On June 29, 2025, at around 1:00 pm, the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting a shooting that had just occurred on Snowberry Lane, north of Riverton in the Gardens North trailer park,” today’s release from Hutchison states. “FCSO Deputies responded to the area with assistance from Riverton Police Department Officers.”
“When Law Enforcement Officers arrived in the area they discovered both the suspect and the victim had left the area. After speaking to witnesses to the shooting, a suspect was identified as 19-year-old Evan Smith. The victim of the gunshot wound (a 40-year-old Riverton area man) was later located at the Riverton Hospital with a gunshot wound to his lower leg.”
The release goes on to inform that yesterday, June 30, Smith was located by Riverton Police Department Officers, and that he is currently in custody with “multiple charges pending.”
