(Evanston, WY) – On Wednesday, February 18th the Uinta County Dispatch Center began to receive a number of 911 calls shortly after 3:00 p.m. about a multi-vehicle crash near Interstate 80 mile marker 18 westbound, east of Evanston.
According to the Uinta County Sheriff’s Office two fatalities have been confirmed from the pile-up and, “approximately 22 individuals were transported or treated for injuries at Evanston Regional Hospital.” The Sheriff’s Office added that some of those treated in Evanston were later transferred to facilities in Utah for further treatment.
In total, the pile-up included 20 commercial semi-trucks and 12 passenger vehicles. Interstate 80 remains closed as of Thursday morning westbound between Evanston and the Lyman exit. Uinta County Emergency Management announced that a temporary shelter will be in place for stranded motorists at the Evanston Machine Shop.
Uinta County Sheriff’s Office, Wyoming Highway Patrol, Evanston Fire Department, Uinta County Ambulance and Bridger Valley Ambulance all responded to the Wednesday scene through the night.
