The 64th Annual Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Powwow kicks of at 6 p.m. Friday with the first Grand Entry at the Fort Washakie Pow Wow Grounds.
“Join us at our newly renovated powwow arbor, enjoy great food, shop the arts and crafts, listen to the drum beat, sing the best songs, and watch as dancers from all over compete and display great talent,” organizers said.
The 2024-2025 Royalty will be crowned after the first Grand Entry on Friday.
The event continues Saturday with traditional Indian games beginning at 10 a.m., followed by the second Grand Entry at noon.
Other Grand Entry times are 6 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.
After the second Grand Entry, there will be a Purple Shawl Special for participants ages 12-19 with outgoing Princess Kiauna Shongutsie and songs from the local host drum Little Brave Singers of Arapahoe.
There will also be a community feast at noon Saturday at Rocky Mountain Hall, and the Wind River Tribal Buffalo Initiative will present free Indian Relay Races at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Fort Washakie Rodeo Grounds.
On Sunday, there will be a parade with cash prizes for walkers, floats, and horse and riders.
Other events planned for the weekend include the Women’s Contemporary Vs. Old Style Fancy Shawl, with 2023-2024 Eastern Shoshone Indian Days Powwow Queen Joleigha Dust, and the Junior Girls Jingle Special with Junior Princess Chloe McAdams.
