‘A good, long run’: Riverton recognizes retiring IT Administrator Tim Hugus

(Riverton, WY) – The City of Riverton held a retirement recognition last week for Information Technology Network Administrator Tim Hugus, who has spent 22 years working at City Hall.

“It’s been a good, long run,” Hugus said during a Riverton City Council meeting June 2. “(But) it’s time to pump the brakes.”

Under Hugus’ leadership, Administrative Services Director Mia Harris said the municipal IT department “has kept the city system secure, reliable, and functioning smoothly – often without anyone ever seeing the work happening behind the scenes.”

“In a field that changes constantly, Tim has been the steady center, guiding his team with patience, clarity and a deep sense of responsibility,” Harris said. 

He also has a sense of humor that “arrives exactly when the room needs it,” Harris said – but “even more than his humor, Tim is known for his deep care for the people he works with.”

“He checks in, he notices when someone is having a hard day, (and) he makes time to help, even when his own workload is overflowing,” she said. “His colleagues trust him, not just because he’s good at what he does, but because he genuinely cares about their success and well-being.”

Hugus said he felt supported by his colleagues as well, and he expressed gratitude for “the kindness and friendships that you all have taken the time to make with me” over the years.

He specifically mentioned Network Systems Analyst Adam Wyrick, whose “genius and fortitude and hard work has made me look really good for a lot of years.”

“A tremendous shout out to him,” Hugus said. “Everybody knows he’s the real deal, (and) you’ll be in the best hands absolutely possible.”

Wyrick’s presence at last week’s recognition “speaks to the strong professional partnership and friendship that they’ve built within the IT department,” Harris said, predicting that Hugus’ “influence on his team will continue long after he steps into retirement.”

“Tim leaves behind a legacy of reliability, integrity and quiet leadership,” Harris said. “Thank you for your commitment, your expertise, your humor, and the steady support you’ve given the staff across every department. We wish you all the best.”
