Our community is large and wildly diverse, which is at the same time our strength and our weakness. #Activate10 is a movement seeking to increase communication between individuals and organizations across Fremont County and to promote positive action in our communities.
A volunteer-driven mask-making project has been launched to cover the needs of Fremont County. The idea came from Fremont County Public Health who is working to flatten the curve of infection and keep the medical facilities from being overwhelmed.
Perry Cook is the Central Coordinator for this county-wide project. “I will take in all requests from the communities either businesses or individuals and pass those requests out to our volunteer seamsters,” Perry said. “The masks will then go to another person who will package them up and get them delivered.”

Perry shared additional information on the masks:
Mask style: Make what you are comfortable making. There are many great masks currently being made. Do make a mask with 2 or 3 tucks or that has a curved front as that fits the face better than a totally flat mask (which gapes on the sides). We do not need masks with filter pockets at this time. Make a mask that is two sheets of fabric; a good size is using two 9 1/2 x 6 1/2 inch pieces of fabric with 3 tucks.

Fabric: cotton that has been pre-washed
Elastic: Elastic earpieces are often easier for the elderly to use. Elastic can be hard to find. Elastic can be irritating on the ears so if the mask is to be worn a lot, ties are often better if the mask has to be worn a long time.
TIES: Ties can be made with binding tape, shoelaces, parachute cord (remember to burn the edges so p cord doesn’t unravel), strips of fabric that are folded and sewn, strips of old t-shirts, etc…
