“Our community is large and wildly diverse, which is at the same time our strength and our weakness. #Activate10 is a movement seeking to increase communication between individuals and organizations across Fremont County and to promote positive action in our communities.”
(Lander, WY) – Registration is now open for the annual Lander Turkey Mile, a Thanksgiving Day tradition that combines fun, fitness, and community giving.
The event begins at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at Lander City Park, 405 Fremont Street, and people of all ages and abilities – including walkers – are welcome to participate.
The one-mile route starts on Third Street near the parking lot for the Lion’s shelter, heads north on Third, turns left on Park Street, and loops back to the left on Fremont Street to finish in front of the parking lot on the north side of the park.
Adding to the fun, several participants will be dressed as turkeys running at various paces — some as fast as sub-six-minute milers — and runners are encouraged to “beat the turkeys” to the finish line.
Participants are also encouraged to bring shelf-stable, non-perishable food donations to place in the food drop box that will be located near the finish end of the race.
All items will be donated to the Lander Food Bank.
Registration is $25 and includes a long-sleeve T-shirt (with a youth short-sleeve option) and a finisher medal. Those who choose the “no shirt” option can save $10.
Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers. Results will be emailed after the race, and they will also be available to view at lifewellruncoaching.com.
Pre-race packet pickup is highly encouraged and will be available 5-6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, at Fremont Therapy, 8168 Wyoming Highway 789.
Race-day packet pickup will be available 7:45-8:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 27, at the gazebo at City Park.
Bathrooms will be available at the Parks and Recreation building near the gazebo on the north side of the park off of Fremont Street. Organizers said the bathrooms by the start line will not be available due to being closed for the season.
Organizers are also seeking volunteers to help on race day. Those interested can sign up through the registration page or email robby@lifewellruncoaching.com for details.
Please note: In the event of unsafe weather conditions, the race may be cancelled. Registrants will still receive their shirts and medals, but refunds will not be issued.
