(Riverton, WY) – The warming hut, which opened for the 2024/25 season last month, is currently seeking donations in the form of food, winter weather accessories, and/or money.
Shelter Supervisor Kelly Arthur shared with County 10 that the specific foods they are looking for include dry foods, coffee/coffee creamer, sugar, Kool-Aid, fruit, Ramen, bread, lunch meat, and “anything that can be cooked in a microwave.”
Arthur says that currently the warming hut has a freezer to store food, and the only means of cooking food is a microwave, so please do not donate foods that require a stove or oven.
Also needed are coats, gloves, hats, blankets, and any other winter weather accessories, mainly in sizes large and above (please no shorts, tank tops or other warm weather clothes).
Arthur shared that right now the warming hut is housing between 10-12 people a night, and is open to anyone in Fremont County able to find transportation there (rides to the warming hut are on a volunteer basis, and at this time there isn’t an official/dedicated ride option.)
“We’re here to keep you warm,” Arthur reiterated, and added that oftentimes the folks who utilize the warming hut will share the items they provide based on who needs them the most.
“I appreciate the help I get from Riverton, and all over Fremont County,” Arthur also said of the response the warming hut has received since opening last year.
Donations can be dropped off at the warming hut, which is located behind the 789 Smokeshop & Casino at 180 Red Wolf Place in Riverton, and they can also be reached at 307-438-3370.
