The City of Lander is providing an update to the previously announced temporary water service interruptions associated with the Buena Vista Water and Roadway Surface Improvements Project. Due to an unexpected water valve issue discovered during construction this morning, an additional water shutoff is required on Wind River Avenue.
Updated Temporary Water Shutoffs
Tuesday, August 4
- Immediately-Noon: Due to an unexpected water valve issue discovered during construction, water service will be temporarily unavailable to residents on Wind River Avenue. This is an expansion of today’s planned water outage. Impacted residents are currently being notified.
- 8 AM-Noon: Water service will be temporarily unavailable to residents on Cedar Street. Impacted residents will receive door notifications.
- Noon-5 PM: Water service will be temporarily unavailable to residents on Sage Street. Impacted residents will receive door notifications.
Wednesday, August 5
- 8 AM-5 PM: Water service will be temporarily unavailable at the Rural Water House, Wyoming Game and Fish Department, and the City of Lander Public Works Building.
Commercial water haulers have been notified. Please plan ahead and fill water tanks before or after the scheduled shutdown.
Road Closure and Access
Buena Vista Drive remains closed from the south entrance to the Wyoming Game and Fish Department to Sage Street. Contractors are coordinating access with affected residents.
The Rural Water House remains open during construction except during the August 5 water shutdown. Please enter from E Main Street/Hwy 789 and exit the same way. Do not access the facility from the south.
Employees, patients, and visitors traveling to Lander Medical Clinic, SageWest Health Care, Showboat Retirement Home, and the Lander Community and Convention Center should use the detour via South 2nd Street and Wyoming Street.
Construction will continue through the fall, with roadway closures shifting as work progresses. Buena Vista Drive will reopen during the winter construction shutdown. Motorists are encouraged to use South 2nd Street and Wyoming Street as the primary alternate route, allow extra travel time, and obey all traffic control signs and flaggers.
The project will be completed in phases during the 2026 and 2027 construction seasons. The City appreciates the community’s patience and will continue to provide updates as work progresses.
