(Casper, WY) – Six Fremont County girls and three boys competed in the annual “Casper Classic,” formerly known as the “Best of the Best.”
The top eight sprinters and hurdlers and the top 10 distance runners and field event athletes in all four divisions of Wyoming High School athletics converged on Harry Geldien Field at Kelly Walsh High School on the first Friday of May each year to determine who is the best in the state in their specific event.
Fremont County was represented by athletes from Riverton and Lander this year, with two Lander Lady Tigers winning a combined three championships.
Adelyn Anderson, a junior at Lander, won both throwing events in impressive fashion. Anderson tossed the discus 152-10 and the shot 45-0.5 to win the events.
Lander sophomore Paisley Hollingshead won the high jump at 5-4 and narrowly missed breaking the Lander Valley High School record on her three final jumps. She added a second in the 300-meter hurdles, breaking her own school record.
Riverton’s hurdling phenom, Addison Alley, won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.57 and was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.78.
Other Lander athletes were Logan Mile, seventh in the 3200-meter run, and Ameya Eddy and Dorothy Jensen in the 1600-meter run, finishing fifth and eighth respectively.
Riverton junior Kayden Liebrecht played in both throwing events, taking fifth in the shot put with a throw of 48-2.75, and sixth with a toss of 141-0 in the discus.
Riverton’s Davian Spoonhunter ran 4:32.50 in the 1600-meter run to finish sixth.
Alexis Taylor was ninth in the discus for the Lady Wolverines.
