(Arapahoe, WY) – The north end zone reads BOO’EIHII, the south HEEYEI. In English that’s Warriors and Falcons. Fremont County’s newest stadium held its opening game Wednesday afternoon when the Ft. Washakie Eagles played the Arapahoe Falcons at the new field just south of the Arapahoe Charter High School.
It was the culmination of over a decade of planning and saving by the Fremont County School District 38 Board of Education and the stadium is magnificent.
Built by Alexander Excavation of Lander the field is the latest, hi-tech artificial surface with the Arapahoe school logo in the middle of the field on the 50-yard line.
“We’ve been planning this for a long time,” Superintendent of schools Curt Mayer said. “We plan to show movies and hold graduation here.”
The field was dedicated with an honor song and the two teams hit the field.
Arapahoe is a K-8 district, with a charter high school. Many other schools have artificial surfaces now, notably Riverton and Lander in Fremont County and Kelly Walsh and Natrona County in Casper. Middle school teams play on the high school fields in these districts, but Arapahoe is the only K-8 district in Wyoming with a facility of this quality.
Much work remains to be done but the field is in place, with a set of bleachers and a press box. The jump areas behind the end zones, and the final surfacing of the track remain, along with landscaping an the construction of other buildings at the location.
“This was our last home game of the season. We thought it would be a good time to show off the field,” Mayer said.
The field was built on one of two 80-acre parcels of land owned by Fremont 38 and should be completed next year.
