All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Riverton, WY) – The arrangement for 23-year-old Riverton man Hunter DeVries has been set for Tuesday, November 12, in Lander’s District Court.
DeVries faces five sexual abuse of a minor in the first-degree felony charges, following an investigation that began after a 12-year-old victim told law enforcement they had been sexually assaulted by DeVries multiple times over the course of a year, according to charging documents filed on October 28.
DeVries, who was at one point running for a Fremont County School District #25 school board seat in the 2024 Election before dropping out when the investigation began, “admitted to having engaged in sexual behavior” with the victim, those same charging documents state.
DeVries later told investigators that he sexually assaulted the victim at least 10-12 times since December of 2023.
A plea agreement was later filed on DeVries’ behalf on November 6, which stipulates that DeVries will plead guilty to Counts 2 and 5, if the remaining counts will be dismissed.
The agreement goes on to state that the parties have not agreed to a specific sentence, but that the State has agreed to cap its argument for a maximum incarceration of “30 years on each count to be served concurrently,” and that DeVries may argue for “any sentence he deems appropriate.”
The agreement also states that DeVries “shall pay restitution on all counts charged in the original information,” as well as assessment fees and any other fines “at the discretion of the Court.”
The plea agreement has not been accepted or denied at this point in time.
After the case was officially bound for District Court on October 30, the November 12 arraignment was scheduled.
