(Fremont County, WY) – As of today, September 24, the Fremont County Fire Protection District and the Bureau of Land Management have lifted various fire restrictions in Fremont County and surrounding areas.

FCFPD
Due to the start of the seasonal change in the weather, and in conjunction with the actions of the local Bureau of Land Management, and local USDA Forest Service, I have recommended the lifting the Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in Fremont County on September 23.
Even with the recent moisture, conditions are still abnormally dry with drought conditions in areas. Fremont County is still not 100% risk free from unwanted wildfire. Vegetation will still easily burn and residents are still encouraged to use caution.
If using fire for recreational, agricultural, or warming fire for hunting, it is essential to have the tools to fully extinguish it. Residents should use water, a shovel, and dry soil to stir, drown, and repeat until any fire is cold to the touch.
Controlled burning should once again be reported to the Fremont County Dispatch Center at 307-332-5611, or the Riverton Police Department dispatch at 307-856-4891.
The Fremont County Commission will vote to finalize the removal of the Restrictions at the September 30th meeting.

Effective immediately, the Bureau of Land Management has lifted fire restrictions on all public lands managed by the Cody, Lander and Worland field offices within Big Horn, Carbon, Fremont, Hot Springs, Park, Sweetwater and Washakie counties, and a small portion of Natrona County that falls within the Lander Field Office area.
“Thanks to recent precipitation and cooler temperatures, conditions have improved enough to safely lift fire restrictions,” said Joel Peters, Assistant Fire Management Officer. “We still urge everyone to remain vigilant and practice fire safety.”
The following activities can resume on BLM managed public lands:
- building a campfire
- smoking
- operating a chainsaw
- using an arc or gas welder, or operating an acetylene or other torch
The following activities are prohibited year-round on all BLM managed public lands:
- discharging or using fireworks
- discharging a firearm using incendiary or tracer ammunition
- burning or igniting tires, wires, magnesium, or other hazardous or explosive material
- operating an off-road vehicle unless it is equipped with a properly installed spark arrester
“Even with restrictions lifted, fire safety remains everyone’s responsibility,” Peters said. “Please help us protect your public lands by staying alert and practicing safe behaviors.”
