(Riverton, WY) – The City of Riverton proudly announces the promotion of Brendan Thoman to Public Works Director, effective June 4, 2025. Thoman, who has served as the City Engineer since 2019, succeeds Brian Eggleston, who is retiring after three years of dedicated service in the role.
Thoman brings over 15 years of diverse civil and environmental engineering experience to his new position, with a strong background in both the private and public sectors. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Wyoming and is a licensed Professional Engineer.
During his tenure as City Engineer, Thoman oversaw capital improvement projects, managed the Utility Division within the Public Works Department, and led initiatives related to water and wastewater system compliance, expansion, and modernization. He has been instrumental in securing funding through grants and loans, as well as reviewing development plans and working closely with regulatory agencies.
Prior to joining the City of Riverton, Thoman’s work spanned several sectors. At James Gores and Associates, he led infrastructure design for municipal water systems and bridge rehabilitation projects. His time at Western Heritage Consulting and Engineering saw him develop sustainable irrigation and erosion control systems for agricultural operations across the Southwest. Earlier in his career, Thoman held engineering and planning roles at Chevron Mining and Peabody Energy, where he focused on mine reclamation, environmental permitting, and large-scale operational planning. He also has hands-on construction experience from his time with Hamaker Excavation, where he worked on utility installation and site development.

Thoman’s appointment follows a national search that spanned over a month and drew candidates from across the country. His promotion reflects Riverton’s commitment to cultivating leadership from within and ensuring continuity of expertise in essential city services.
As Public Works Director, Thoman will oversee infrastructure improvement projects, foster community engagement, and ensure the efficient and responsive delivery of public services. He will collaborate with city leadership, local partners, and residents to enhance the quality of life in Riverton and promote long-term sustainability.
