The Lander Community Foundation (LCF) annual community-wide fundraiser Challenge for Charities, or C4C, is back at again for 2026, and as of May 1, the LCF will match any donations made to eligible local nonprofits through July 10.
Since its inception in 2011, LCF has collectively raised and distributed nearly $7 million dollars to help local nonprofits help our community. Money raised during this period ensures programs continue to run and that doors stay open.
We’re highlighting a few of the participating charities in this year’s Challenge:
The Bossert Collective Brings New Public Art to Lander Through Challenge for Charities Support
LANDER, WY — The Bossert Collective is excited to welcome local artist Aiyana Eve Perez of Sage Brush Studio and Sheridan-born artist Hilary Williams of Revel Painting to be part of the Bossert Collective’s new slate of public murals this summer, adding to the city’s growing collection of public art.
Founded in 2021, The Bossert Collective is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing high-quality public art to Fremont County. Through murals, community art projects, and artist partnerships, The Bossert Collective works to make art accessible to everyone while fostering creativity, community pride, and a stronger sense of place.
This summer’s mural projects will continue that mission by transforming public spaces into vibrant works of art that can be enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. Both Perez and Williams bring unique artistic perspectives and a proven track record of creating engaging, community-centered artwork.
Challenge for Charities donations will directly support these projects by helping cover artist fees, paint and materials, equipment, site preparation, and future public art initiatives throughout Lander. Community support ensures that artists continue to have walls to paint and that residents have access to inspiring public art experiences.
Research has shown that public art can strengthen local economies by attracting visitors, increasing foot traffic to businesses, enhancing community identity, and encouraging civic engagement. Public art also creates opportunities for connection, conversation, and shared experiences that contribute to vibrant and welcoming communities.
“Public art belongs to everyone,” said Sophie Barksdale, co-founder of The Bossert Collective. “These murals become part of our shared landscape and tell visitors that Lander values creativity, imagination, and community. Support through Challenge for Charities helps us continue creating these opportunities for artists and residents alike.”

The mission of the Lander Free Medical Clinic (LFMC) is to provide free healthcare and wraparound services to low-income, uninsured, and underinsured Fremont County residents. As the county’s first and only free clinic, we help fill a critical gap in our local healthcare landscape: when asked what they would have done if our clinic had not been available, 25% of LFMC patients report that they would have gone to the emergency room, while 60% report that they would not have gone anywhere for care.
In addition to offering free primary care delivered by local volunteer health professionals, we provide our patients with essential medications, labs, imaging, medical equipment, and specialty services at no cost. We also screen for and address social determinants of health, such as food, housing, and transportation, making sure that our patients are connected with available resources that equip them to be healthy, housed, fed, and secure.

For over 75 years, Lander Performing Arts has been bringing professional “big-city” performances to rural Wyoming. From September through May, we present a dynamic lineup of professional music, theater, and/or dance; with season shows typically held on stage at Lander Valley High School.
In recent years, we’ve expanded our mission to make the arts even more accessible by providing FREE community outreach programs. Highlights from this past season include three WYOjazz Swing Dances at the Senior Center, seven incredible outreach performances in FCSD#1 schools, and the beloved Missoula Children’s Theatre (a week-long musical theatre residency open to K-8 graders). This fall, get ready for Missoula’s adorable stage production of A Little Mermaid. Auditions will be held after school on Monday September 14th. True to our mission, we provide this educational week entirely free for participants.

Lander Search and Rescue Support Fund is an all volunteer team of highly skilled local citizens. We operate year round and provide backcountry search and rescue services to Lander’s residents and visitors. Overview of Lander Pipe Band:
The Lander Pipe Band is a bagpipe and drum band located in Lander, WY. The band’s mission is to uphold the musical traditions of Scotland by providing high quality pipe and drum band music to our community and to honor our region’s Veterans, Active Military, and First Responders. The band formed in 2001 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the US.
Since the band’s formation on Oct 11, 2001, band members (bagpipers and drummers) have performed at over 1,000 events in Fremont County and the State of Wyoming. 70% of the Lander Pipe Band performances are for honoring or memorializing Veterans, Active Military, and 1 st Responders. When youth band members cross paths with our region’s veterans, active military, and 1st responders, something special happens. The youth start to understand the sacrifices made by others. When that happens, the youth mature and become more aware and more informed citizens. Youth and adult band members immediately find a connection between the band’s music and history. The Lander Pipe Band is, at its core, an educational institution whose mission is to honor people who serve others. The band does not charge fees for local performances (within the county) that honor veterans, active military, or 1st responders, nor for memorials involving these groups. The Lander Pipe Band is a 501c3 non-profit entity (EIN 93-2346400).
How C4C donations to the Lander Pipe Band will be used
The Lander Pipe Band’s membership has grown from 4 people (in 2001) to nearly 50 members (as of June 8, 2026). 70% of the band members are youth (ages 7 – 18). In late 2025, the band’s membership grew by 15 people: 10 new bagpipe students and 5 new drumming students began attending free weekly lessons (taught by the more experienced band members). The new members have been learning the basic rudiments of their respective instruments on either “practice chanters” or “practice drum pads”. However, all 15 are now ready to start learning to perform on the full size instruments. The Lander Pipe Band provides free loaner instruments to
all beginners so that they (and their families) can decide whether the instrument it’s a good match for them. A set of bagpipes or a new drum (fully equipped) costs about $1,300 each.
Eventually, band members can purchase the instrument from the pipe band. The Lander Pipe Band seeks to raise $19,500 to purchase new instruments for the 15 new band members. All band members receiving new instruments with C4C donations will participate in the band’s mission within the first month or two of obtaining the instrument. Examples of pipe band performances include: Annual State Fire Fighter Memorial in Riverton, Quilts of Valor ceremonies, 9/11 memorial ceremony, National Guard deployment ceremonies, veteran events, military and 1st responder memorials, July 4th parade, LightUp Lander parade, Community Christmas Chorale, Nursing Home performances, and Veterans Day ceremonies.

The Houlihan Narratives Enters 10th Season, Calls for Community Support for Authentic Local Storytelling
Annual Challenge for Charities matching campaign runs through July 10th to fund live events and podcasts
LANDER, WY — June 2, 2026 — The Houlihan Narratives, a local volunteer-run live storytelling organization, announced its participation in the annual Challenge for Charities (C4C) fundraising campaign. Hosted by the Lander Community Foundation from May 1st through July 10th, the event serves as the primary funding catalyst to sustain the organization’s live community
gatherings, empathetic listening spaces, and digital archive.
Marking its milestone tenth season, the Houlihan Narratives has hosted 28 live community events centered on true, personal stories that foster local compassion, conversation, and mutual understanding.
“Lander is a distinct community filled with individuals of diverse life experiences and few opportunities to share hard-earned wisdom, creating common ground, empathy, and increasing connection,” said Amy Skinner, Board Chair. “Sustaining this treasure trove of local history requires community backing, and the C4C matching pool is the most impactful way for neighbors to support our mission.”
Storytellers mirror our community: parents, children, teachers, students, progressives, conservatives, young, old, ranchers, environmentalists, tradwives, ministers, and more. Our goal is to put stories to the faces we see in the community. We know that a glimpse into each other’s map of the world strengthens our community as a whole. The Lander Community Foundation matches individual donations designated to the Houlihan Narratives. All designated funds will directly support the operational costs of upcoming live local storytelling events.

Beyond the live stage, the organization archives Lander’s local history for wider audiences. In collaboration with Plug Tone Audio, these live recordings are produced into The Houlihan Narratives Podcast, available for streaming on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Boomplay, and the Plug Tone Audio network.
