(Campbell County, WY) – At 12:36 p.m. Wednesday afternoon the National Weather Service issues a tornado warning for Campbell County, Wyoming. Radar indicated cloud rotation was likely occurring between the communities of Wright and Gillette, triggering the warning.
The Campbell County Fire Department issued the following statement about damage from the storm and one rescue effort that was necessary in its aftermath.
At approximately 12:36 p.m. this afternoon, emergency responders were dispatched to the area of Rattlesnake Road and South Highway 59 following a report of a tornado.
Occupants were trapped inside a damaged residence. Emergency responders successfully rescued them from the home. Multiple other properties in the area also sustained damage. No other injuries have been reported.
Responders remain in the area surveying for additional injuries and property damage. Powder River Energy Corporation (PRECorp) is also checking electrical infrastructure throughout the affected area. The National Weather Service is aware of the event.
Anyone immediately impacted by the storm may contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767) for assistance. Property owners who sustained damage should take photographs and coordinate with their insurance companies.
The storm system has moved out of Campbell County, and there is currently no immediate threat to residents in the area. South Highway 59 remains open.
