A Life Rooted in Family and Hard Work
Growing up on a family farm in Wisconsin as the third of seven children, Dar learned the importance of responsibility early on. With five sisters and two brothers, she spent much of her childhood helping care for her younger siblings and working on the farm. She also enjoyed hanging out with friends, balancing hard work with moments of fun and laughter.
After her father’s passing, the family made the difficult decision to sell the farm, marking a turning point in Dar’s life. Her first job took her to the local mall, where she worked at the theater taking tickets. It was a small but meaningful step into the working world, teaching her the value of honesty and perseverance—principles she continues to live by today. In fact, her best life advice is simple yet profound: Be honest and don’t go looking for trouble.
Cherished Memories and Heartfelt Reflections
Dar’s happiest memory is the day she married her loving husband, Don, on December 30th, 1972. Their enduring love has been a constant source of strength, and Don remains a devoted partner, visiting her at Westward Heights almost every day.
If she could go back in time, Dar would return to 1975—the year her oldest son, Mike, was born. Being a mother has been her greatest joy, and she is most proud of her children and grandchildren. However, life has also brought heartache, and her saddest time came in 1999 when her son Scott tragically passed away in a car accident. Despite this unimaginable loss, Dar continues to cherish the love of her family and the memories they have created together.
Faith, Family, and Finding Joy
Christmas holds a special place in Dar’s heart, not only as a time to celebrate Jesus’ birth but also as a cherished season of family gatherings. For her, the true joy of the holiday is found in togetherness, laughter, and love.
When asked how she would like to be remembered, Dar’s answer is simple yet powerful: as a person who cares. This sentiment is reflected in every aspect of her life, from her dedication to family to the warmth she shares with those around her.
If Dar could have just one wish, it would be a life without Parkinson’s. Despite the challenges it brings, she faces each day with grace, determination, and a heart full of love for those closest to her.
