The first hosting of a Central Wyoming College regional soccer game ended with a double win. First the Rustler men handled Laramie County Community College 1-0 then the women’s team broke a 1-1 deadlock with Northwest College for a 2-1 win.
The women play next Saturday at 1 pm in Cheyenne at Laramie County while the men travel to Otero College for a 3 pm match, also on Saturday.
In the men’s game Izaak Smith scored on a ricochet off the upright on an assist by Maddox Nadge at the 23-minute mark.
Much of the first half had the Rustlers on the defensive but the Golden Eagles had only three shots on goal, all handled by goalie Stanley Schumann.
The match was physical with Central tallying 19 fouls and Laramie County 11.
Officials handed out multiple yellow cards with three on Central four on Laramie County. At 90 minutes, the Golden Eagles’ defender Demitri Wiegand was ejected from the game on a red card.
In the women’s contest, Central scored first on a Lalei Stoker goal on an assist from Jillian Nelson at 4:59. Almost 30 minutes of scoreless play ensued before the Trappers tied the game a 1-1 on an unassisted breakaway by Brooke Travers at 32:34.
Jersee Clapier scored the deciding goal at 40:42 off an assist from Sienna Bodily.
The 2-1 lead held on to the end.
In a relatively clean match, Central had six fouls in the opening half and Northwest just three. Both teams were clean in the second half.
Central scored on two of their three shots on goal and Northwest on their only shot.
The women are 9-5 overall and riding a three game winning streak.

Bailey Brown dribbled around a defender for the Lady Rustlers Saturday. The Rustlers celebrated after beating LCCC at home Saturday 1-0 in the first round of the playoffs. Frederik Lindhoej hugged Stanley Schumann as the buzzer rang out and CWC had won the game 1-0. Stanley Schumann caught a cross in the box for CWC. Stanley Schumann cleared the ball for the Rustlers Saturday. Quentin Riballet’s dribble was stopped by an LCCC defender. Fall foliage was in full effect around the soccer field Saturday at CWC. Issam Taiar showed off his fancy footwork in the attacking third. Quentin Riballet navigated the midfield for the Rustlers. Izaak Smith celebrated his goal with teammates in the first half.
