Lander, Wyo. — Central Wyoming College Lander is inviting adults to rediscover the joy of making music through its Beginning Band for Grown-Ups, a new class running Tuesdays from Feb. 3 through May 7, from 7 to 8 p.m.
Designed for adults 18 and older, the large-ensemble class welcomes both absolute beginners and those returning to music after a long break. No prior musical experience is required.
The class is led by veteran music educator Thomas Wilson and emphasizes learning by doing. Participants will begin playing together as a full band on the first night. Instruction includes producing sound on an instrument, reading printed music, following a conductor and playing as part of an ensemble. Students who already play an instrument are encouraged to try a second one.
“This class is about joy, connection and reclaiming something you may have left behind years ago,” Wilson said. “It’s structured, supportive and, above all, fun.”
Participants must have a band instrument in good working condition, such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba or snare/bell kit. Instruments will be available for rental on opening night, with Hill Music of Casper on site. Financial assistance to help offset instrument rental or repair costs is available through funding from the LOR Foundation.
The course will conclude with a full-band performance for friends and family.
