It’s another fire truck ride for the Wyoming Indian cross country team at the state finals in Cheyenne on Saturday. The Chiefs edged favored Burlington by a single point, 32 to 33 to win the title.
Paced by top 10 finishes from Colton SunRhodes, Heeyeniniitou Monroe-Black and Jordan Black the Chiefs held off the Huskies with their fourth runner, Kaiden Moss.
Sunrhodes was fifth, Monroe-Black seventh, and Black eighth for 20 points. Burlington’s top three tallied 17 points with third, fourth and 10th place finish. Moss scored 12 points to reach the 32 total and Burlington’s fourth-place runner was 16th, so the Chiefs won the state championship by a point.
The Lady Chiefs finished third with 37 points, behind Sheridan County rivals Tongue River and Big Horn that tied for first with 32 points.
Dai’Onna Posey and Marysa Trumbull earned all-state honors with Posey the runner-up and Trumbull seventh.
