(Ethete, WY) – The 406 faced the 307 at Alfred Redman Memorial Gym Saturday Night when the Lodge Grass Indians traveled from Montana to play the Wyoming Indian Chiefs. The Indians won 84-77 in an entertaining game.
Wyoming Indian and Lodge Grass battled back and forth in a fast paced third period, with the visitors holding a one-point advantage at the end of the first quarter and holding that margin until the half.
The Chiefs were led by junior forward Heeyeiniitou Monroe-Black. He led all scorers with 32 points on 10 close range baskets and one 3-pointer.
The Chiefs controlled the paint, but the Indians can shoot and blistered the nets for a dozen 3-point shots.
“They have the trifecta, size, shooting and speed,” Wyoming Indian head coach Craig Ferris said. “They should do well this year.”
The Chiefs hit 23 2-point shots and four from beyond the arc, led by Jordan Black with a pair. Cordell Spoonhunter added the other trey.
The Chiefs were 19 of 26 from the line, and Lodge Grass 10 for 13.
The Chiefs host Southwest Conference foe Wind River on Friday and then entertain Northwest 2-A Greybull on Saturday.
