(Ethete, WY) – Wyoming Indian rolled into first place in the Southwest 2-A with a pair of wins at Alfred Redman Memorial Gymnasium over the weekend. The Chiefs handled Big Piney 70-59 then rolled over Kemmerer 83-22.
The Chiefs held Kemmerer to just a pair of first period points and allowed only 10 by the half while building a 46-10 lead. The game moved into running clock mode early in the third via the mercy rule.
The Chiefs were paced by a season high 33 points from junior forward Heeyeiniitou Monroe-Black. Monroe-Black hit five 3-pointers on the night.
Also, in double-figure scoring was Kenneth Addison with 19 and Parlayne Ferris with 10.
Big Piney is a solid team but lost their point guard to a broken ankle last week.
The Chiefs jumped ahead behind a blazing fast scoring spree in the opening period that tallied 29 points. They led 50-30 at the half, but the Punchers closed in the second half to make it a respectable game.
Darian Augustine led Wyoming Indian with 20 points. Monroe-Black had 13 and Jordan Black 10.
The Chiefs played this weekend without Cordell Spoonhunter who suffered a knee injury last week. He is expected to return to action next weekend.
