(Ethete, WY) – It was over quickly at Alfred Redman Memorial Gym Friday evening with the visiting Wind River Cougars steamrolled by host Wyoming Indian 102-16. The Cougars remain winless on the season with the Chiefs jumping to 1-0 in the Southwest 2-A with the lopsided win.
Wyoming Indian rolled behind one of the highest-scoring quarters in the program’s history, outscoring the Cougars 43-4 in the opening eight minutes of the game.
Wyoming Indian head coach Craig Ferris played his starters just the first quarter, then sparingly over the next two periods before finishing the contest with reserves and junior varsity players brought up for the game in the second half.
The Chiefs opened up a 60-5 lead late in the second period and led 64-8 at the half.
The running clock was in effect the entire second half.
The Cougars suited just six players for the varsity game, and just two scored, Ford David tallied 10 points and Jeffrey Strock had 6.
All 13 Wyoming Indian players suited for the game scored.
Darian Augustine paced the Chiefs with 19 in limited play. Parlayne Ferris tallied 14 and Heeyeiniitou Monroe-Black 13.
Antyn Bell, who played well in the junior varsity game and moved up to the varsity, made the most of his minutes, scoring 11 points in the final period.
The Chiefs hosted Greybull Saturday in non-conference action.
