(Pavillion, WY) – Led by three players in double-figure scoring, the Wyoming Indian Chiefs breezed by Wind River on the road at Pavillion 84-37 to sweep the series with their Southwest 2-A and Fremont County rivals.
The Cougars played well early, putting up 16 points in the opening period, which was more than their total game point production in their first meeting with the Chiefs last month at Ethete.
Paced by the return of Ford David, who missed a couple of games with a knee injury, the Cougars were able to take the ball inside, but it wasn’t nearly enough.
The Chiefs roared out to a 26-16 lead after one period, then put fuel to the fire in the second, outscoring the Cougars 23-5 to take a 49-21 lead at the half.
The trio of Heeyeiniitou Monroe-Black, Parlayne Ferris and Darian Augustine scored inside in Wyoming Indian’s half-court set, in transition off steals and via mid-range jump shots.
Monroe Black paced the Chiefs with 19, including their only 3-point shot on the night. Ferris and Augustine each scored 15.
David poured in a career high 20 points, on 10 close-range shots.
The Cougars too were off from beyond the arc, with Troy Tidzump connecting on their only 3-point shot.
It was a continuation of the poor shooting suffered by the girls in the game before where they hit no long-range shots.
The Chiefs host Rocky Mountain in an interesting tilt. While the Cougars face another buzzsaw in the second-ranked, once-beat Wright Panthers at home.
