Kevin Christensen, a Wyoming native and decorated combat veteran, today announced his candidacy for the United States House of Representatives. With a deep commitment to Wyoming and a proven record of public service, Christensen is dedicated to protecting individual liberty and Wyoming’s cultural heritage.
“Raised in Wyoming and strengthened by my military experience, I’m ready to serve our people once again,” Christensen said. “Wyoming deserves strong, steady leadership that champions our values and way of life.”
A Casper native, Christensen graduated from Kelly Walsh High School before earning a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wyoming. He later completed advanced degrees in Operations Research and Systems Analysis from the Florida Institute of Technology and in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
A Distinguished Military Graduate from UW, Christensen began a 27‑year Army career in 1989, serving as an AH‑64 Apache attack helicopter pilot and rising to the rank of Colonel. His combat leadership included commanding Task Force Gunslinger in Iraq, which earned the prestigious Valorous Unit Award. He later served on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon, advising senior military and civilian leaders on national defense matters.
His military decorations include the Legion of Merit, Defense Superior Service Medal, two Bronze Star Medals, four Air Medals, the Army Combat Action Badge, and the Valorous Unit Citation.
Transitioning from the military, Christensen was a Senior Manager at Lockheed Martin, working on Army Aviation and tactical missile systems while collaborating with Defense Department officials and providing testimony to congressional staff on key defense programs. In 2019, he returned to Wyoming to lead the Bureau of Land Management’s High Plains District in Casper, where he collaborated with state and county leaders, expanded access to public lands, authorized major energy developments, and advocated for the responsible development of Wyoming’s natural resource industries. He also served as an agency administrator for the wildland fire program and oversaw the Casper Interagency Dispatch Center and National Historic Trails Interpretive Center.
Christensen’s focus is on fiscal responsibility, individual liberty, and fighting federal overreach. “Wyoming’s future relies on leaders who stand firm to protect our freedoms and ensure our lands remain accessible to those who call this state home,” he stated.
Kevin and his wife, Amber—originally from Cheyenne and currently Chairman of the Casper Celtic Irish Festival—recently celebrated 36 years of marriage and have two adult children, Trevor and Heather.
