With a mild winter, many residents are getting an early start on spring cleanup. The City of Lander is committed to keeping the community safe by reminding residents of proper burn practices and permit requirements.
Burn permit applications are available at City Hall or online at landerwy.gov/forms. A $50 nonrefundable application fee is required and must be paid at least five business days prior to the scheduled burn.
A permit is required for the controlled burning of leaves, brush, grass, or untreated wood products within city limits. Burning trash, garbage, refuse, or hazardous materials is strictly prohibited to protect public safety and air quality.
Chris Johnson, Airport and Fire Hall Manager, said, “As residents begin yard work earlier this year, we want to remind everyone that a burn permit is required within city limits. The permit process allows us to review safety conditions and reduce fire risks. Permit holders must notify dispatch before they begin burning and again once the fire is completely out so emergency responders can properly manage any related calls.”
Johnson also noted that recreational or residential fire pits do not require a burn permit, provided they follow established safety guidelines.
