Call it what you’d like — the City of Lander Public Works Department is excited to introduce the newest member of our team, our new street sweeper!
Thanks to the unusually favorable January weather, you may have already seen the street sweeper out on Lander streets this month. The mild conditions have provided the perfect opportunity for staff training and getting the new equipment up and running.
This new street sweeper is significantly more efficient than the City’s previous model, which was about 20 years old. The new sweeper operates more quietly and, beginning this summer, will incorporate water into the sweeping process to help reduce dust. It is designed to effectively remove leaves, dirt, grime, gravel, and other debris, allowing crews to clean streets more thoroughly and efficiently. So far this month, Public Works crews have cleaned approximately 75% of Lander’s streets, with the goal of completing the remaining streets before summer, weather permitting.
The street sweeper was purchased as part of the City’s $44.9 million loan and grant funding awarded by the State Land Investment Board (SLIB) in February 2024. After many months on order, the City is excited to welcome this new equipment to the fleet and put it to work serving the community.
