The City of Riverton has joined a steadily-increasing list of municipalities across the state and country in filing a federal lawsuit against opioid manufacturers and distributors.
The Casper Star-Tribune reports the lawsuit filed this week is accusing roughly two dozen companies for misrepresenting the addictive properties of the prescription painkillers.
Casper and Jackson-based attorney Jason Ochs is representing the City of Riverton, as well as Casper, Cheyenne, Rock Springs, and Carbon County in lawsuits similar.
Riverton’s lawsuit specifically will be combined with others in Cleveland, Ohio Federal Court, but Ochs said that it could be moved back to Wyoming if it does go to trial.
Riverton’s Mayor Richard Gard said the City of Riverton is not expecting the lawsuit to be a, “money maker,” but rather that it shows Riverton’s support in controlling to the opioid epidemic.
