The City of Lander would like to remind residents that two large events will be taking place at City Park over the coming week. While the park remains open to the public, visitors should expect increased traffic, pedestrian activity, and event infrastructure during this time.
The International Climbers’ Festival, held July 10–13, brings climbers and outdoor enthusiasts from across Wyoming, the nation, and around the world. Since its founding in 1994, this celebration of climbing culture has grown into one of Lander’s most iconic annual events. Many festival activities—including community gatherings, clinics, and entertainment—will be centered in City Park.
Immediately following, Tour de Wyoming, a weeklong supported bicycle tour, will bring over 300 cyclists through Lander for two nights—July 14 and 15. Riders will arrive from Riverton via Sweetwater Station and Beaver Rim and will spend their rest day exploring the area. On July 15, cyclists will be on a scenic ride through Sinks Canyon and then loop around Squaw Creek and Baldwin Creek. They will depart for Dubois the morning of July 16.
To accommodate these events, overflow tent camping—by permit only—has been approved for these two events in the grassy area west of the City Park stage. This area is not available for public camping and will return to regular park use after the events. Designating this specific space helps preserve access to the rest of the park for the general public, ensuring everyone can continue to enjoy the playground, picnic areas, and open space during these busy event days.
A reminder to all park users: The property west of the playground and stage is open space and not a designated parking area. To help protect this area, a new gate is being installed this week along Fremont Street to limit vehicle access. The gate may be temporarily opened for specific event needs—such as equipment loading or unloading—with prior coordination through the Parks and Recreation Department.
