(Pavillion, WY) – An impromptu dual wrestling meet came to Pavillion last Saturday with Wind River hosting Big Piney, Dubois, Greybull/Riverside, Rocky Mountain, Thermopolis, and Wyoming Indian.
Dual meets are a challenge at many schools with teams unable to fill enough weights for a true contest between wrestling teams. The matches at Pavillion on Saturday were filled with open spots, and forfeits as teams didn’t have wrestlers to fill weight classes.
Host Wind River wrestled Big Piney, Greybull/Riverside, Wyoming Indian and Rocky Mountain. The Cougars won three of those duals.
Wyoming Indian had three wrestlers for their dual match with Greybull/Riverside and Wind River.
This weekend features the class of small school wrestling tournaments in the Don Runner Memorial at Pavillion.
Numbers are smaller this year since Shoshoni elected to host a dual tournament on the same date, but there are interesting teams coming to the two-day event at the Purple Palace.
In addition to the host Wind River, Wyoming Indian, Hanna Elk Mountain, Lander Valley, and Buffalo are slated to compete.
