(Thermopolis, WY) – It was another long weekend for the Wind River Cougars, playing in Thermopolis at the Big Horn Basin Classic last Friday and Saturday. The Cougars dropped four games, two of those via the Mercy Rule.
They opened the weekend with a 57-25 loss to Class 1-A Burlington in the noon game on Friday at Bobcat Gym.
Wind River trailed early 15-5 with the Huskies doubling them up at the half 28-14. The third period was a disaster. Burlington rolled on a 23-2 period with most of their points coming on fast breaks off Wind River turnovers in the half-court. A short-range shot by Jeffrey Strock was the only offense the Cougars could muster.
Ford David paced Wind River with 10 points, including their only 3-pointer. Josh Gallagher finished with nine, but the 6-6 junior rolled his ankle late in the game and missed the next three contests.
Wind River’s second game came against host and defending Class 2-A state champion Thermopolis. The Bobcats rolled over the Cougars 62-8.
Saturday, Wind River dropped a pair, losing big to Class 3-A Cody 68-16, then dropping their final game of the Classic 56-34 to Rocky Mountain.
Wind River is on the road this weekend with a pair of conference games at Big Piney and Kemmerer.
