(Lander, WY) – The Wyoming Legislature’s Joint Corporations, Elections, and Political Subdivisions Committee will host an educational overview and demonstration of election practices in the state during a meeting next week in Lander.
Wyoming Sen. Cale Case, R-Lander, who chairs the Corporations Committee, said the presentation will benefit new committee members and members of the public who might not have a “big picture” understanding of election processes in the state.
“I think it’ll be very useful for people,” Case said during a legislative Management Council meeting last month. “The county clerks … are going to bring in election equipment, show how the ballot procedures (work), how ballots are handled, you know, the lockboxes and the chain of custody – we’re going to go through all of that before we actually start digging into bills.”
Once the committee has a shared understanding of current practices, Case said the group will “decide how those current practices could potentially be modified going forward.”
The meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, in the Board Room at the Fremont County School District 1 King Administration Building, 863 Sweetwater Street in Lander.
The election presentation is scheduled to start at 8:45 a.m., followed by a review of 2025 legislation from the Wyoming Secretary of State at 11 a.m.
After lunch, the committee will take up electricity topics and issues, then discuss emergency services, including 911 system funding and outage reporting.
The meeting will continue at 8:30 a.m. Friday, May 9, in the same location, beginning with reports from the Wyoming County Commissioners Association, the Wyoming Association of Municipalities, and the Wyoming Association of County Officers.
At about 10 a.m. Friday, the committee will discuss public records and open meetings, and after lunch, the committee will hear a report from the Uniform Law Commission on the Uniform Commercial Code.
The meeting is open to the public for in-person attendance and will be streamed live on the Wyoming Legislature’s YouTube channel.
