Wyoming lawmakers squashed a bill that would have prevented voters from switching party affiliation near a primary or general election.
The Casper Star-Tribune is reporting that a Thursday night vote by the Wyoming Senate, by a tight 14-11 margin.
The crossover voting issue was brought to light by the 2018 Wyoming Governor race, in which many were accused of switching parties to ultimately assist Governor Mark Gordon in getting the Republican nomination.
The Wyoming Secretary of State’s office shows that over 12,000 Wyoming voters changed their affiliation in the summer of 2018.
Of those, around 6,000 were Democrats who became Republicans. Roughly 4,300 were unaffiliated voters who became Republicans.
