Central Wyoming College Volleyball Sweep in Final Regular Season Matches; Region Tournament Up Next

The Central Wyoming College Rustlers showcased their dominance in recent women’s volleyball matches against Northwest College and Western Wyoming Community College, securing two sterling victories. Both matches, which were part of the regular season schedule, took place in Riverton, and ended with the Rustlers winning each match with a final score of 3-0.

In the opening set against Northwest College, the Rustlers took an impressive lead, winning 25-16. They continued their strong performance by clinching the second set 25-22 and narrowly securing the third set 26-24. Similarly, against Western Wyoming Community College, the Rustlers held their ground with set scores of 25-17, 25-13, and 25-21. These victories have not only demonstrated the team’s cohesive play but also solidified their position by securing the #2 seed in the Region 9-North Division.

Key players made significant contributions to these wins. Presley Ryan led the team with 12 kills, closely followed by Sarah Meservey with 11 kills, who also added 3 blocks to her performance. Laina Whitney contributed across the board with 4 kills, 1 block, and an ace, proving her versatility on the court. Additionally, Nora Rasmussen and Hallie Reeder-Johnson each provided crucial assists that helped secure the Rustlers’ victories.

Looking ahead, the Rustlers are set to face off against North Platte Community College in the first round of the NJCAA Region 9 Volleyball Tournament. This match is scheduled for 1:30 PM, November 5, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska. The team’s continued focus and strategic play will be key as they advance in this highly competitive tournament.

Women’s Basketball Splits Season-Opening Games in Twin Falls

The Central Wyoming College Rustlers Women’s Basketball team experienced a mixed start to their regular season, securing a victory against North Idaho College but falling to College of Southern Idaho in their subsequent game. Both matches were part of a non-conference series played on October 31, 2025, with the first game in Twin Falls, Idaho, and the second game hosted by the College of Southern Idaho.

The Rustlers dominated their opening game against North Idaho College Cardinals, concluding with a final score of 70-48. Point guard Lexie Kesler emerged as the standout player, leading with 26 points, 5 assists, and 6 steals. Her scintillating performance included a stellar three-point shooting display contributing significantly to Rustlers’ early 12-point lead, capped off by a 42-31 halftime score. By the third period, the Rustlers had propelled their advantage to a commanding 30 points, ultimately sealing their victory after maintaining stability in the final period through impactful bench contributions.

However, the second game marked a stark contrast as the Rustlers faced a tough challenge from the College of Southern Idaho Golden Eagles, who took an early 12-point lead and held it throughout the game. Despite efforts from Rustlers’ players like Bella Sika and Iiris Vuorinen, who each scored 5 points, and Sophie Wilkinson, who led with 8 rebounds, the initial deficit proved insurmountable. With a solid defensive play from CSI, the game ended unfavorably for the Rustlers, 80-30.

Looking ahead, the Rustlers are set to face Utah State University Eastern on November 7, at 4 PM in Riverton, WY. The team currently holds a 1-1 record and aims to utilize the insights from their opening games to enhance their performance in the upcoming match.

Men’s Basketball Falls Short in First Regular Season Games of the Season

The Central Wyoming College Rustlers competed in a non-conference regular season basketball event in Rock Springs, WY, on October 31 and November 1, facing tough challenges against Utah State Eastern and Lamar Community College.

In another game of the day against Utah State Eastern, the Rustlers again showed promise initially but could not maintain their momentum, ending the game 10 points behind at 58-68. The pivotal moments came from Utah State Eastern taking control of the game despite the Rustlers’ enthusiastic start.

The Rustlers, led by top scorers Julian Ormond with 16 points and Christian Kranz with 14 points, initially took an early lead in their game against Lamar Community College. Contributions from Christian Kranz who also led with four assists, and Luke Danielson, topping the rebound charts with 7, were notable. Despite these efforts, the first period concluded with Lamar leading narrowly by 35-33.

Lamar extended their dominance in the second period with Jaylon Brown’s crucial three-pointer pushing their lead, closing the halftime at 63-35. Continued pressure in the third allowed Lamar to further its lead to 96-75. The Rustlers struggled defensively in the final quarter, unable to overturn Lamar’s lead and ultimately falling 75-96.

The back-to-back games showcased significant effort from the Rustlers, but the combination of strong three-point shooting and fast breaks from their opponents led to challenging defeats. The Central Wyoming College team is looking forward to rebounding in future matches as they continue to build on their performances.

CWC started their season 0-2, and will host Rocky Mountain College on Friday, November 7 in Riverton, WY at 6 PM for their first home game of the 2025-26 regular season.
