Men’s Soccer Continues to Make History, Secure First Ever Victory in a Region 9 Playoff Game

Riverton, WY— In a pivotal playoff game, the Central Wyoming College men’s soccer team hosted Laramie County Community College Golden Eagles on October 18, in Riverton, WY. The Rustlers edged out a 1-0 victory in what was a tightly contested match, securing their first ever Region 9 playoff win in the history of the CWC men’s soccer program.

The sole goal came early in the match at the 23-minute mark, with Izaak Smith finding the net, thanks to a skillful assist by Maddox Nadge. This decisive goal placed the Rustlers in a leading position by halftime, maintaining the 1-0 score. Throughout the game, both teams demonstrated strong defensive skills, but it was CWC’s goalie, Stanley Schumann, who played a critical role in preserving the lead and ensuring the team’s victory.

Looking ahead, the Rustlers are scheduled to face Otero College in the Semifinals round, set to take place on October 25, in Pueblo, CO. This upcoming game promises to be another significant challenge as the Rustlers aim to continue their success in the regional playoffs.

Women’s Soccer Writes the Record Books, Clinch First Ever Region 9 Soccer Playoff Win

Riverton, WY— In historic fashion, the Central Wyoming College Rustlers secured their first-ever Region 9 playoff win in women’s soccer by defeating the Northwest College Trappers with a final score of 2-1. The match, held on October 18, in Riverton, WY, marked a significant milestone for the Rustlers.

The game started off tightly, with neither side managing to score in the first half, maintaining a deadlock at 0-0 by halftime. The tension escalated in the second half when the Rustler’s Jersee Clapier broke the scoring drought at 40:42 with an assist from Sienna Bodily, giving CWC a brief lead. However, the Trappers quickly responded, with Northwest College’s Brooke Travers finding the back of the net unassisted at 58:34, setting the stage for a dramatic conclusion.

As the match extended into the first overtime period, Lalei Stoker emerged as the hero for the Rustlers. Stoker scored the game-winning goal with 4:59 left in the first OT, assisted by Jillian Nelson from a corner kick, clinching the victory for Central Wyoming College. Both the goal scorers, Stoker and Clapier, along with assisters Nelson and Bodily, were key figures in the Rustlers’ offensive strategy throughout the game.

Volleyball Splits Outcomes in Home Region 9 Conference Games

Riverton, WY— In a series of thrilling home events, the Central Wyoming College Rustlers hosted back-to-back conference volleyball matches, resulting in a mixed outcome. The Rustlers first secured a decisive 3-0 victory over Gillette, only to be edged out 3-1 by Casper in a subsequent match.

During the first match against Gillette, the Rustlers displayed commanding control, winning the sets 25-20, 25-19, and 25-22, respectively. Rachel Workman led the attack with a notable 9 kills, while Sarah Meservey contributed significantly on defense with 2 blocks. The defensive effort was bolstered by Hallie Reeder-Johnson who amassed 19 digs, helping secure the Rustlers’ victory.

The encounter with Casper proved more challenging. The Rustlers started strong, taking the first set 28-26 but faltered in the following sets, losing 22-25, 24-26, and 16-25. Despite the setback, Rachel Workman persisted with a resilient performance, securing 11 kills. Nora Rasmussen stood out as well, scoring 14 kills and making crucial plays with 8 digs. Additionally, Quincey Mathews was instrumental with 40 assists.

The event also featured ‘pink night,’ adding special recognition to the matches. The Rustlers’ next conference game is scheduled for October 24, where they will face Eastern Wyoming College in Torrington, Wyoming. The Rustlers currently hold an 11-15 overall record, and are 5-3 in conference play with four more regular season games left.

Women’s Basketball Preps for Season with Scrimmages in Utah and Colorado

The Central Wyoming College Rustler Women’s Basketball team successfully completed a challenging pre-season competition slate this past weekend, traveling to two different states to face a strong lineup of regional opponents in preparation for the official start of the 2025-26 season.

The Rustlers opened the weekend on Friday at the Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) Jamboree in Taylorsville, Utah. The team utilized the opportunity to test their defensive schemes and offensive flow in live action against perennial regional contenders, including scrimmages against Snow College, College of Southern Idaho, and Colorado Northwestern CC. The matchups provided the coaching staff with key insights into player rotations and defensive assignments under game pressure.

On Saturday, the team traveled to the Rocky Mountain Jamboree in Windsor, CO to conclude their evaluation weekend. Here, CWC faced additional high-level junior college competition, including Northeastern Junior College, Otero College, and Trinidad State College. These contests allowed the Rustlers’ younger players to gain crucial experience and integrate into the team’s system against diverse playing styles.

The women’s basketball team will continue their pre-season slate at home next, where they host Carroll College and Colorado Northwestern CC on Saturday, October 25 at 1 & 4 PM, respectively.

Men’s Basketball Wraps Up Productive Pre-Season Weekend at Rocky Mountain Jamboree

The Central Wyoming College men’s basketball team had a quick day trip of pre-season competition this past weekend, participating in multiple scrimmages in one day at the Rocky Mountain Jamboree in Windsor, Colorado.

The trip provided the Rustlers coaching staff with invaluable opportunities to evaluate player combinations and refine tactical approaches against quality regional opponents.

The Rustlers’ schedule included five total contests against a mix of regional and national junior college programs, allowing the team to test its depth and defensive intensity. On Friday, October 17, the team matched up against Fort Hays Tech Northwest and Southeast Community College in two intense scrimmages. 

The pre-season events served their primary purpose of conditioning the team for the physical demands of the regular season and accelerating the cohesion of the squad. The scrimmages focused heavily on running set offensive plays, executing defensive rotations, and managing player substitutions in game-speed situations.

The Rustlers will begin regular season play at the Western Wyoming Invitational in Rock Springs, WY on October 31 & November 1, where they’ll face Utah State Eastern and Lamar CC.
