Central Wyoming College Volleyball
The Central Wyoming College Women’s Volleyball team recently completed two significant Region 9 Conference matches at their home court, first against Eastern Wyoming College on October 3, and then facing Laramie County Community College on October 4.
On October 3, the Rustlers secured a victory over Eastern Wyoming with a final score of CWC 3, EWC 0. The sets were closely contested, with scores of 26-24, 25-21, and 25-20 in favor of the Rustlers. Notable performances included Nora Rasmussen with 15 kills, 10 digs, and 3 aces, Presley Ryan with 9 kills, and Rachel Workman with 6 kills. Quincey Mathews notably assisted 34 plays, adding an impressive depth to the team’s offensive strategies.
The following day presented a tougher challenge against Laramie County Community College. In a hard-fought contest, the Rustlers won the first set 25-17 but subsequently lost the next three sets 18-25, 20-25, and 20-25, ending with a final score of CWC 1, LCCC 3. Despite the loss, there was significant individual play with Rasmussen again leading the scoring, Presley Ryan elevating her performance to 13 kills, and Rachel Workman improving to 12 kills. Laina Whitney and Sarah Meservey were pivotal in defensive plays with 4 and 3 blocks respectively.
Hallie Reeder-Johnson received NJCAA Region 9-North Defensive Player of the Week honors for her prowess on the court, racking up a total of 47 digs across both games total.
As the Rustlers prepare for their next match against Northwest on October 8, 2025, in Powell, Wyoming, the team remains focused on improving their current standing of 8-15 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Players like Laina Whitney have expressed a committed focus on strategic adjustments moving forward to enhance team performance.
Rodeo
The Central Wyoming College Rustler Rodeo Team has delivered an outstanding performance, securing a much-needed rebound at the Lamar Antelope Stampede Rodeo in Lamar, Colorado, and demonstrating excellence across multiple events as highlighted by the results.
The Rustlers were in Lamar for the fourth of five fall rodeos and truly shone, with the Men’s Team finishing 3rd overall, just behind their tie-back riding and team roping.
“This was a much-needed rebound for this entire team after their performance in Sheridan,” said Coach Schrock. “They arrived in Lamar ready to do their jobs, and it showed.” The team collectively secured seven slots in the short round on Sunday, with Eian Smith (Bareback) and Cael Espenschied (Team Roping) winning the round and average in their respective events.
Other standout performances included:
- Braxton Condos roped to great speeds to finish 4th in the team roping.
- Gavin Kuegler broke out his new bronze saddle and seems to have made a huge difference in his ability to spur broncs as he was 72 points on his long round.
- Kenedie Balster stepped out of her comfort zone and entered the Goat Tying for the first time this season, landing a great run in the long round with a 8.4, which brought her back to the short round for the first time this season.
The team is now preparing for its last weekend of competition this week before leaving Friday morning for the LCCC rodeo in Cheyenne.
Men’s Soccer
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers demonstrated outstanding performance in their recent soccer games against Western Nebraska Community College and Laramie County Community College on October 3 and 4, 2025, respectively. Playing as the visiting team, the Rustlers managed to clinch narrow 1-0 victories on both days, enhancing their season record to 6-5-1.
On October 3, in Scottsbluff, NE, both teams were unable to score in the first half, keeping the game intensely competitive with a 0-0 score at halftime. The breakthrough came when Drake Terra, assisted by Davide Daveri and Josh Bromwell, netted the winning goal for the Rustlers. Justin Vaurs, the goalkeeper, played a crucial role in preserving the lead with his robust defensive skills.
The following day in Cheyenne, WY, saw a similarly challenging match against the Golden Eagles. The score was stagnant at 0-0 by halftime, but the tension broke when Leonidas Papanikolaou scored from a penalty kick, once again securing a 1-0 win for the Rustlers. Papanikolaou’s performance earned him additional recognition for his decisive goal. Goalkeeper Justin Vaurs continued his form, contributing significantly to the team’s success.
Looking ahead, the Rustlers will ride a four game win streak into matchups against Northeastern Junior College and Lamar Community College on October 10 & 11, in Riverton, WY, respectively.
Women’s Soccer
In a fiercely contested regional college soccer encounter on October 3, 2025, the Central Wyoming College Rustlers triumphed over the Western Nebraska Cougars with a final score of 3-1 at Scottsbluff under sunny conditions. The match was a critical test for both teams, showcasing determination and strategic plays throughout the game.
The first half of the match ended with both teams locked at 1-1, setting the stage for an intense second half. Bailey Brown was the standout player for the Rustlers, scoring two crucial goals. Lacey added another, solidifying the Rustlers’ lead and securing the win. The Rustlers’ defense held strong, and a notable contribution came from Savannah Putman, the backup goalkeeper, who stepped in effectively after Madilyn Shillig suffered an ankle injury.
Reflecting on the match, the head coach Ben Nelson acknowledged it as an ‘ugly win’ against a well-prepared Western Nebraska team that skillfully countered the Rustlers’ game plan.
In a challenging regular season conference soccer game held on October 4, 2025, at Cheyenne, WY, the Central Wyoming College Rustlers women’s soccer team faced off against Laramie County Community College. Despite a valiant effort, the Rustlers were unable to secure a victory, concluding the game with a score of 2-0 in favor of Laramie County Community College.
The match started aggressively with Laramie County Community College finding the net early. The golden eagles scored the first goal at the 5-minute mark, setting an intense pace for the game. The Rustlers tried to regroup and counterattack but faced a strong defense. At the 30-minute mark, LCCC extended their lead scoring a second goal, making it increasingly difficult for the Rustlers to bounce back.
The Rustlers currently have a 6-5 overall record, and hold the #4 seed spot for the NJCAA Region 9 playoffs. They look to secure their playoff position during their last regular season games on October 10 & 11 at home against Northeastern JC and Lamar CC, respectively.
