Riverton, Wyo. — Riverton Rotary’s Shannon Watts successfully completed the 100-mile Denver Century Ride, on September 28, 2024. This was his third year riding to support Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self” with funds raised going to refurbish Riverton’s Park Bandshell.
“I’m happy to share that all of my training paid off,” says Watts. “Despite a flat tire, cramped legs and getting lost, I was able to finish! The biggest challenge was a 6,000-foot climb to the top of Lookout Mountain. I rode with my wife’s cousin Brian Rogers. We were glad to get that climb done early in the ride.”
“We hit 40+mph on our way down the mountain,” adds Watts. “I went to college in Denver. My roommate and I rode on some of the same trails so this was a trip down memory lane for me. I also met the nicest people on the ride. It’s a good feeling knowing I can still ride a bike 100+ miles.”
