(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton Police Department celebrated another new addition to the team this week with the swearing-in of patrol officer Sierra Heyer.
Heyer is originally from Montana, where she graduated in 2020 from Flathead High School in Kalispell, RPD Chief Eric Hurtado said when he introduced her to the Riverton City Council this week.
Initially pursuing ranching and a nursing career, Heyer moved to Glendive, Montana, where Hurtado said she found “a new opportunity (to) fulfill her dream of joining law enforcement.”
“She joined the local police department and graduated from the Montana Law Enforcement Academy,” he said. “She married her husband, Brayden, (and) their marriage brought them here to Riverton, where she’s continuing to build a career in law enforcement.”
Heyer is “deeply committed to expanding her knowledge and experience and aspires to one day be a detective,” Hurtado said, noting that “her diverse background and strong sense of purpose make her a dedicated and driven officer.”
“We definitely welcome the addition of our new officer and thank her for joining the city,” City Administrator Kyle Butterfield said.
Butterfield added that a new RPD lieutenant is moving to Fremont County this month and will be sworn in during an upcoming meeting.
Another officer recently resigned, however, Butterfield said, announcing the departure of Zachary Bansavage, who joined the RPD in December but has now “taken (an) opportunity with another community on the other side of the country.”
“Personal components in his life necessitated a move,” Butterfield said. “We’re sad to see Officer Bansavage go, but we’re very grateful for the service he provided our community in the time that he was here.”
