Drones are assisting crews battling two wildfires in northwest Yellowstone National Park.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle is reporting that the drones are being used to take photos, map the perimeter, and is taking infared data showing the fire’s hottest spots and most urgent areas that crews need to address.
Fire spokesman Jeff Gildehaus told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle that using this technology was a “huge advantage.” He explained it helped reduce hazards to firefighters on the ground.
The Wigwam fire has burned acres as of 4,191 acres as of Wednesday and the Monument fire burned 6,613 as of Wednesday.
