Eastern Shoshone Tribe announces ‘large GPS project’ to improve 911 emergency response on Wind River Reservation

The Eastern Shoshone Tribe recently announced that a contractor will be working on a “large GPS project” on the Wind River Reservation requiring crews to retrieve readings from “all tribal buildings and residences.”

The project was designed to “greatly improve 911 emergency and fire department and medical response for tribal residents and departmental buildings,” the EST said in a press release last week.

As part of the project, the press release says crews from Disaster Resiliency Experts will be “on-site, recording readings with magnetic placards placed on their vehicles.”

“The objective is to improve disaster resilience for the Wind River Reservation so that the area will be safer in the future,” the press release states. “Your cooperation and patience are greatly appreciated.”

The undertaking “was approved along with other BIA Tribal Resilience projects via a tribal resolution,” the EST noted, and crews working on the project will have the resolution with them “to help answer any questions.”

The project is associated with two grants the EST received through the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Annual Awards Program “with the goal of assisting the Tribe’s overall resilience infrastructure to mitigate vulnerabilities and strengthen climate change resilience to create a safer business and tribal community,” the press release states.
