(Fort Washakie, WY) – The Eastern Shoshone Tribe, in partnership with TravelStorysGPS, is pleased to announce plans to develop a new audio tour titled “Land Before Time: Commemorating America’s 250th Anniversary.”
This audio tour will guide visitors through the Wind River Canyon, a site of profound cultural and historical importance to many Indigenous tribes.
“For thousands of years, the Shoshone people have thrived in this region,” the Eastern Shoshone Tribe said in a press release this week. “This new tour will highlight how, even amidst rapid change, their traditions and deep connection to the land remain constant. It will emphasize the lasting importance of Shoshone history, the powerful geology of the canyon, and the life-giving waters that run through it.”
The Eastern Shoshone Tribe was recently awarded a $10,000 grant to begin Phase 1 of this two-phase project.
This initial funding will support the development and production of the tour’s content.
The council has applied for second-phase funding that will focus on testing, marketing, and launching the tour in time for the 2026 commemoration events.
“This project is the first of a two-phase effort to broaden understanding of the Shoshone people and honor the enduring bond between people and place,” Shoshone Business Council Chairman Wayland K. Large said. “The ‘Land Before Time’ tour will serve as a meaningful tribute during America’s 250th anniversary events in 2026.”
This collaborative project – a partnership between the Eastern Shoshone Tribe and TravelStorysGPS in Jackson – will be available to the public in time for the 2026 anniversary celebrations.
