The City of Lander is proud to announce the completion of the Ellis Tank, a state-of-the-art, 4-million-gallon water storage facility, located just beyond the Mortimore Lane turn-off near Sinks Canyon. Following a year of construction, the tank is now in service, marking a significant milestone in Lander’s commitment to reliable and sustainable water infrastructure.
This project was managed by HDR Inc., the engineer and construction manager, with High Country Construction of Lander serving as the successful bidder and contractor.
Funding and Community Investment
The $10.7 million project was made possible through substantial grant funding, including:
$7.02 million from Wyoming Water Development, and
$3.55 million from Abandoned Mine Land Reclamation Funds.
The City of Lander contributed approximately $130,000 through water and sewer user fees, ensuring that the community has a direct stake in this vital resource.
Advancing the Lander Water Master Plan
This initiative is a cornerstone of the Lander Water Master Plan, established in 2022, which focuses on ensuring a sustainable water supply, supporting system expansion, enhancing regional collaboration, maintaining reliable service, and exercising fiscal responsibility. The Ellis Tank provides numerous benefits, including increased water storage to meet peak summer demands and enhanced capacity for emergency situations.
What to Expect
This week marks the first time water will flow from the Ellis Tank into the distribution system. The water has undergone extensive testing and meets all EPA and local safety standards. Residents may notice a slight chlorine smell in the water over the next week, which is part of the initial disinfection process. Rest assured that the water is safe and potable.
