Fair week fun starts with safe choices

Fair week in Fremont County is a time-honored tradition. Families come together to support local youth, cheer on the rodeo, admire exhibits, and share good food and good company. It’s one of the best weeks of the year, and the memories made are meant to last a lifetime.

But sometimes, choices around alcohol can change the tone of the celebration.

Drinking too much or allowing underage drinking doesn’t just break the law—it puts our kids, our community, and the fair experience at risk. Impaired judgment, unsafe situations, and accidents can turn what should be a joyful week into something very different.

Here’s how you can help keep the fair safe and fun for everyone:

  • If you choose to drink, drink responsibly—know your limits and never drink and drive.
  • Keep alcohol out of the hands of minors—set the example and the boundaries.
  • Talk to your teens about why the rules are there and how to say no to peer pressure.
  • Be aware of your influence. Young people are watching—and remembering.

Fair week is also a time when veterans, families, and individuals living with PTSD may experience stress or sensory overload, especially around loud events. Respecting each other’s space, keeping gatherings safe, and looking out for your neighbors is part of what makes our community strong.

Whether you’re showing a lamb, flipping burgers, or watching the rodeo under the lights, your choices matter. Let’s make sure our youth, families, and community have a fair to remember… for all the right reasons.

What makes the moment… is you.
