A family of three is safe after their home caught fire early Tuesday morning.
At 2:33 a.m. the Morton-Kinnear Fire Department and Fremont County Sheriff’s were dispatched to a house fire call on Diversion Dam Road, about 12 miles northwest of Kinnear.
According to a spokesperson from the Morton-Kinnear Fire Department, the homeowners were, “awoken by their smoke detectors and a family pet.” The couple was able to get a young child out of the house, as well as their pets, unharmed.
The spokesperson told County 10 that the escape was, “pretty miraculous that they all made it out okay.”
One homeowner described that their small child had insisted on sleeping in his parent’s room instead of his own bedroom for the night. They described being a little frustrated initially at the notion of not getting a “decent night’s sleep.” The homeowner continued, “It ended up being the greatest blessing since having him. Due to where the fire was in our home, getting our son out would have been difficult.”
The home and nearly all of the family’s possessions were described as a “total loss.”
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
