(Kinnear, WY) – It probably wouldn’t take long if you asked NFL fans to name the most famous football writer of all time, for them to say “Peter King.”
King wrote for ‘Sports Illustrated’ from 1989 to 2018. He’s been named National Sportswriter of the Year three times, has authored five books and hosts a weekly podcast covering the National Football League.
Peter and his wife, Rosemary are currently on a cross-country road trip which began in Brooklyn, New York, will take them up the west coast and then back again to New York.
Days 5 and 6 of their adventure were spent in Wyoming. King described the state to his followers on X, “Miles of flat sameness, yes. But a beautiful state, especially the west, with incredible rock formations and a 9,655-foot peak at the Continental Divide.”
King also made several remarks online about the Pack Trail Fire on Togwotee Pass. “In the mountain town of Dubois, 90 minutes east of Jackson, we passed a fire camp—temp housing and rest area for firefighters battling the Pack Trail fire in the state. As the sun set, it was hard to tell if the brightness came from the fireball of the sun or the actual wildfire. It was the fire. Eerie to see in the darkness a reddish-orange sky over the mountains as we drove. Road sign: HEAVY SMOKE FROM WILDFIRE. DRIVE WITH EXTREME CAUTION. We did make Jackson. I noticed in my hotel room that my polo shirt reeked of smoke. Feel for the firefighters and the residents so.” The next day he added, “Spent much of today inhaling smoke from Pack Trail wildfire. We drove around the eerie bright-orange glow in the dark Monday night. Thank God for the firefighters.”
Peter also stopped for a quick visit at Kinnear’s St. Edward Catholic Church, just off of Highway 26. He described it on X as a “lovely church.” And while he didn’t stop at it, he did note to his online audience of 2 million+ followers, that he had passed the National Museum of Military Vehicles just outside of Dubois.
