(Ethete, WY) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Wind River Police Department/Bureau of Indian Affairs (WRPD/BIA) are investigating a shooting that occurred in Ethete today, August 14, according to information obtained by County 10 from the FBI Denver Field Office Public Affairs Officer Vikki Migoya.
“I can confirm the FBI is investigating a shooting today in Ethete, on the Wind River Indian Reservation,” Migoya stated in her reply to County 10’s information request.
“The FBI is coordinating with Wind River Police Department/Bureau of Indian Affairs and other law enforcement agencies. This is an ongoing investigation and additional information is not available at this time.”
County 10 has also reached out to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) for additional details, but they were not able to reply by the time of publication.

No details on the status of the victim are available at this time, but scanner traffic overheard by County 10 indicated that a subject sustained a gunshot wound to the abdomen, and was being transported for medical assistance.
Wyoming Indian Schools and the Fremont County School District (FCSD) #14 district office building in Ethete were temporarily placed on a precautionary lockdown this afternoon, due to a “reported disturbance at the Ethete Store.”
At this time it is unconfirmed if the “disturbance” and resulting lockdown were directly related to the shooting.
County 10 will provide additional details as they become available.
