(Fremont County, WY) – At approximately 5:00 PM, units from the Fremont County Fire Protection District, including Morton-Kinnear Fire (Battalion 5), Fort Washakie Fire (Battalion 12), and Lander Rural Fire (Battalion 3), were dispatched to a reported grass fire in the 200 block of Plunkett Road.
Upon arrival, crews located a grass fire burning in light fuels. There was an initial concern for a nearby structure being threatened. Fire personnel quickly deployed suppression efforts and were able to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing further spread to nearby areas.
The fire was estimated at approximately 2 acres, and no structures were ultimately damaged. No injuries reported.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Fremont County Fire Protection District reminds residents that dry conditions and wind can rapidly increase fire spread, and encourages the public to use caution with any outdoor activities that may spark a fire.
