(Fremont County, WY) – Fremont County Fire Protection District resources responded to a reported wildland fire in the Crooks Gap area near Jeffrey City. The incident was designated the Gonzo Fire.
Jeffrey City Fire Department responded to the incident, with assistance from Fremont County Fire Protection District’s Lander Rural Battalion 3 and Central Fire Battalion 1. Federal wildland firefighting resources also assisted with suppression operations, including aerial resources that supported firefighters working on the ground.
Through the coordinated efforts of local and federal firefighting resources, the Gonzo Fire was contained to approximately 2.4 acres.
The fire is believed to have been caused by lightning.
