(Fort Washakie, WY) – Units from the Fremont County Fire Protection District responded to a reported grass fire in the area of Trout Creek and Old Wind River Highway in Fort Washakie on Saturday, the FCFPD recently reported.
The fire was reported at approximately 1:43 PM on February 28, 2026, with responding resources including Fort Washakie Fire (Battalion 12), Lander Rural Fire (Battalion 3), and a reserve apparatus from Morton-Kinnear Fire (Battalion 5).
Upon arrival, crews located an active grass fire burning in light to moderate fuels. Firefighters quickly initiated suppression efforts and worked to stop the forward spread of the fire.
The fire burned approximately 2.3 acres before being brought under control. Crews remained on scene for mop-up operations and to ensure all hotspots were fully extinguished. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
