(Fremont County, WY) – Please be aware of a scam currently going around Fremont County. Callers are contacting County residents advising them they have warrants for their arrest and requesting them meet at certain locations to post the bond to prevent them from being arrested and jailed.
Currently we are aware of said callers using Lieutenant John Zerga’s name as being the Sheriff’s Office employee to meet with to post said bonds. Lt. Zerga is not and has not been contacting anyone in reference to warrants, nor has any other employee with the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office.
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office will not/does not contact people about warrants via telephone and have them post bonds to any Fremont County Sheriff’s Office employee. All bonds related to court issued warrants are to be posted with the respective issuing court.
If you receive a call from a caller advising you of a warrant and requesting you meet them, it is a scam. Please do not provide them with any personal information or with any money. If you receive a call from these callers, just hang up on them. Also, you do not need to contact the Sheriff’s Office to advise us of the call, as we are aware of this Scam.
