Two people were killed in a two-vehicle accident on Christmas Eve between Genesse, Colorado and the Lookout Mountain area on Interstate 70.
One of the people involved was a former Lander resident, and Lander Valley High School graduate, Sancy (Florquist) Shaw. Shaw was 38. Her 6-year-old daughter was also involved in the crash and airlifted to Children’s Hospital Denver with serious injuries. There are no further details released at this time about the 6-year-old’s injuries. A CaringBridge page has been set up for her.
According to CBS4 Denver, a 62-year-old woman, Cheri Goodard of Fredrick, Colorado was headed eastbound on I-70 when her car began to drift off the roadway. The woman overcorrected and spun through the median, striking Shaw’s vehicle. Both drivers were killed.
CBS 4 reports that alcohol and marijuana are being investigated as possible factors into the crash.
Shaw was living in Steamboat Springs, Colorado where she worked as a teacher at North Routt Charter School. Her school biography said she enjoyed spending time with her daughter, her three sons, and spending time outdoors.
A memorial fund has been set up at Yampa Valley Bank in Steamboat Springs, CO under the name “Sancy Shaw Memorial” that people can donate to.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help defray the expenses that the family is incurring during this difficult time.
